Introducing The ALL-NEW 2023 Toyota Sequoia
Introducing The ALL-NEW 2023 Toyota Sequoia
Posted on June 14, 2023
Over 20 years after its North American debut as a full-size SUV based on the infamous Toyota Tundra, the Sequoia follows the complete redesign of the 2022 Tundra with its own makeover. Named after the giant Sequoia trees in the California Redwoods, this new version of Toyota’s largest SUV will take drivers into the future, while remaining sturdy and trustworthy like its predecessors.
An expected release in Summer 2022 means the San Antonio-built 2023 Sequoia is just around the corner – offering similar technological upgrades to the all-new Toyota Tundra. Let’s check out some of the exciting highlights from Toyota’s announcement that we’re most looking forward to.
The SUV market is always evolving, and the 2023 Toyota Sequoia is proof that Toyota dedicates a ton of resources to providing the best driving experience for SUV owners. Much like the last two generations, the Sequoia frame shares a very similar build to that of the newly redesigned Toyota Tundra. This latest innovative engineering has prioritized excellent handling and capability, while still providing top class comfort. Toyota was able to increase rigidity and improve driver and passenger comfort with new laser welding technology to help reduce mass and weight in some areas, and reinforce other areas that needed it more. Efficiency, from the design stages – to the factory construction – to your commute.
Those looking to use their 2023 Toyota Sequoia as a reliable and powerful towing tool can add the available Load-Leveling Rear Height Control Air Suspension and Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS). Trailers, boats, RVs – unless its over 9000-pounds, the 22 percent increase in towing capacity on the 2023 Sequoia can handle it, especially with available features like the Trailer Backup Guide and Straight Path Assist. Plus, with updated cameras displaying multiple exterior angles and a Panoramic View Monitor – you won’t need a parking and towing genius to get you in or out of tight spots. And, for the first time on the Toyota Sequoia, power folding, extending and retracting tow mirrors are available. That’s a big bonus.
Inside the 2021 Sequoia are three rows in different configurations for seating and cargo. For some grades, passengers in the second-row will have bench seating or captain’s chairs – reclinable for comfort or foldable for more cargo space. The spacious third-row backseat also folds – but for 2023, this backseat is an exclusive Sliding Third Row with Adjustable Cargo Shelf System. Not only is this feature brand new to the 2023 Toyota Sequoia, but it’s also the first of its kind across all full-size SUVs. 6 inches of sliding adjustment range and the (removeable) Adjustable Cargo Shelf can be arranged in a variety of storage positions, designed to offer the ultimate flexibility in rear cargo and storage requirements.
Another new feature to the 2023 Sequoia is Drive Mode Select, different driving modes depending on driver preference and the priorities of their drive. Eco, Normal and Sport mode provide versatility in efficiency and performance. With the available Load-Leveling Rear Height Control Air Suspension and Adaptive Variable Suspension settings – 2023 Sequoia drivers can also select settings that include Comfort, Sport S, Sport S+ and Custom. For the Sport settings, the i-FORCE MAX powertrain uses the electric motor’s instantaneous responsiveness, turning the hard work over to the gasoline engine after 29 km/h.
Expect the 2023 Toyota Sequoia to arrive in five grades – the TRD Off-Road, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro and Capstone editions. Across these unique trim levels is the desired design of “a sophisticated, yet tough and active lifestyle SUV that looks capable of handling a diversity of big adventure needs” says Kevin Hunter, one of the main designers. First launched in the 2022 Tundra, the 2023 Sequoia will boast the new Toyota multimedia system, perfectly enhanced for the levels of technological ease and advancement we’ve become used to in out homes and at our workplaces, now in your vehicle. Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 will keep drivers and passengers out of situations involving unfortunate accidents and incidents.
